0. The European Energy Markets of Today

Welcome!

Welcome to this course The Energy Markets of Today. You are just one of the many students around the world who have joined this course because you want to be a part of the energy transition. Before we can make this step, however, we must first understand how the current energy market functions. This course will give a deeper understanding of the driving principles behind the European electricity markets of today.

Watch the introduction video to find out more about the course, what you be learning throughout your 5 weeks here and who you will be meeting. We hope you will enjoy this course and take away the knowledge you learn here out into the real world!

Course syllabus

This course will last five weeks, with each week touching on a different topic. After every video, there will be a short quiz to test your knowledge about the what you have learnt. This assignment could take any form: a multiple choice quiz, a live practice, a sample case or even a Merit Order challenge. The type of activity will determine how much the grade from that assignment contributes to your final grade. In the 'progress' tab, you can monitor your own progress and scores. Please note that only the graded assignments count towards your certificate, and the green checkmarks shown at the end of some modules do not.

At the end of the course, there will also be a final exam to test your overall knowledge of the course. This exam will be a combination of multiple choice, Merit Order calculations and peer assessed answers. For the peer assessed answers, you will be expected to grade the answers of others taking the course once you have completed the final assessment. This will be explained in more detail later.
