3.2 Security of Supply in The Energy Transition

How do renewable energy sources affect security of supply?

One of the big questions in energy policy today look at how we keep the lights on during the energy transition? When wind and solar make up most of out energy mix, we will still need some form of dispatchable generation during peak hours. This videos details this problem and proposes how we can encourage investment in this dispatchable generation when wind and solar power are driving energy prices down.

Flexibility Options

Despite still having huge problems with generation investments in renewable energy systems, there are some solutions that can help soften the blow. One of these solutions, and the subject of this video, is flexibility options. This video will detail different options to reduce the effects of large peaks in electricity demand and to store energy for later use.
